The Surroundings
Blisland is one of the most sought after villages in the county. At its heart is the village green which is possibly the largest in Cornwall. Overlooking the green is the Blisland Inn which is a former CAMRA pub of the year and the parish church of St Protus and St Hyacinth (originally Norman) about which Sir John Betjeman said "As a restoration - even improvement - of a medieval church, this can hardly be bettered", There is also a shop and post office which offers a super range of provisions as well as the internet cafe. A number of substantial granite houses and pretty cottages overlook the green. There is a village website www.blisland.com
The expansive areas of Bodmin Moor are a short distance above the village, and in contrast below the village to the west is the beautiful Camel Valley with the trail which will take you along the former line of the steam railway to Padstow (bikes are available to hire in Bodmin, Wadebridge and Padstow). The Forestry Commission have extensive woodland at Cardinham where there are both marked paths, play areas and mountain bike course as well as a very good cafe.
Blisland Inspires the title of Katrina Leskanich's second solo album.
'Blisland' - the title of Katrina's (formally of Katrina and the Waves) 2014 album inspired by the genre of music from her formative years - I wanted to record an album that reflected my love of all the genres of music I grew up listening to, from Peter Frampton Live to Neil Young's Harvest. I fell in love with the South West of England, the beautiful beaches reminded me of California and a little village called Blisland not only had a fantastic little pub but also gave me the perfect name for my new album.'
